Folded Paper Art by Simon Schubert

Cologne-based artist Simon Schubert creates two-dimensional images of buildings and architectural interiors out of intricately folded paper. If you thought the papercut sculptures of Peter Callesen were amazing, prepare to have your mind blown by Schubert's work.

For his first solo exhibition at upstairs Berlin Simon Schubert has created an accessible room. Ceiling and walls are covered completely with panels of paper folds in which other works of paper are embedded.

Simon Schubert (born 1976) is an artist based in Cologne, Germany, his birthplace. From 1997 to 2004 he trained at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the sculpture class of Irmin Kamp.

Inspired by Surrealism as well as by Samuel Beckett, Schuberts works imagine architectonical settings, common situations and objects, whereas the material he uses are either simple or sophisticated - white paper folded or mixed media arrangements. Some of his paper foldings entered the West Collection, Oaks, PA, while the Saatchi Collection, London, owns sculptural works in mixed media.

In 2008, Schubert received the ZVAB Phonix Art Award for new-comers.
