Castle Miranda Belgium - Abandoned Place

The Castle of Miranda - also known as Castle of Noisy or Home de Noisy - located not far from Dinant in Belgium, is abandoned since 1991.

During the French revolution, the family of the Count from Liedekerke-Beaufort has left the nearby feudal castle of Veves to hide in a farm outside the village. After the revolution, the farm took the name of castle and finally became this gigantic house. The castle is built in 1866 by an English architect called Milner.
Between World War I and II, the castle became the 'Home de Noisy', a vacation camp for SNCB (Belgian national rail company) railwaymen's childrens.
It was finally abandoned in 1991after a fire and is slowly falling in ruins since.
This castle has now became a very dangerous place to explore! Never go there alone!

Female crocodiles lay eggs (about 9 to 90 eggs) and bury them in the sand.

A baby crocodile has an egg tooth on the end of its snout. It is a tough piece of skin which is totally reabsorbed less than two months after hatching. Crocodile eggs are similar to those of birds in that they have an inner membrane and an outer one. The egg tooth is used to tear open the inner membrane; the baby crocodile can then push its way through the outer shell. If conditions are particularly dry that year, the inner membrane may be too tough for the crocodile to break through, and without assistance it will simply die inside the egg. Generally, however, the mother crocodile is there to help free it.

Little crocs in some species make chirping sounds in their eggs when they are about to hatch. This tells the mother croc to dig them out of the sand nest.

99% of the crocodile offspring are eaten in the first year of life by large fish, lizards, birds, and ... adult crocodiles.

Adult crocodiles live to around 50 to 60 years; however, some have lived as long as 130 years!

House Made Of 110 Tons of Steel

Ok, this amazing house is the almost finished Steel House by the artist Robert Bruno. The house build near the city of Lubbock in Texas.
It sits on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the lake. Bruno has been working on this house for almost 3 decades...

The house is a steel cave. Instead of scratching little pieces of stone to enlarge your cave, Robert Bruno welds more steel plates onto his existing dome-structure. While most architecture today is based on the (steel, concrete or wood) frame, Bruno builds his house of domes. The folded, load bearing surfaces so many architects aspire, are here build - by hand.
It weights about 110 tons, Bruno calculated. It is tempting to think with rising steel prices the unbuilt value - the actual material could exceed the value of the project as a piece of art. 110 tons of steel however equals even with today's price only about 30.000 dollars. A car is more expensive than that.

Nautilus Shell House - Just Awesome

Nautilus Shell House was build for a Mexico City couple by Senosiain Arquitectos. The house is put together using a frame of steel-reinforced chicken wire with a concrete spread over it, resulting an earthquake proof structure.

The open concept inside the house is dominated by smooth surfaces, spiral stairs and natural plantings that makes the inhabitants feel like they're living inside a snail who swallowed the entire contents of somebody's back yard.
The metaphor was to feel like an internal inhabitant of a snail, like a mollusk moving from one chamber to another, like a symbiotic dweller of a huge fossil maternal cloister.
I simply adore this creation!!!

The Cosmo World Wet Roller Coaster

Dives through an underwater tunnel.
A unique, visually impressive coaster with some fairly big drops and an intense helix. The name of the coaster refers to the fact that this coaster "dives" and "vanishes" into an underwater tunnel, accompanied by a large spray of water.

The Cosmo World is an interesting little park built in a harbor that is the best option, by far, to escape once you are bored of riding the fast elevators of the local hotels. The freshly renovated Cosmo World is a high-tech urban three-dimensional amusement park which was planned, built and is now operated by Senyo so as to create the concept of busy streets. The venue was inaugurated after its renewal on March 18, 1999.

Covering a plot area of about 20,000 sq. meters, the place to look for the Cosmo World is 11 Shinminato-cho, Naka-ku in Yokohama City. The park remains closed every Monday under the manager, Saburo Yamada. The names of a few of the rides include: Wonder Amuse Zone, Burano Street Zone, and the Kids' Carnival Zone. There are 27 attractions, 5 eating facilities and one distribution facility here. The Legend of the Salamander is a laser battle game that anybody can enjoy. Salamander, the ruler of the dark, helps you destroy evil forces with a laser gun installed in the ride.

This is an amusement park with a Ferris wheel that has captivated the public, as one of the largest Ferris wheels in the world, with a capacity of 480 passengers, and a height of 112.5 meters. Here, you can also go for a Roller Coaster ride or a Long Flume ride.

Well, it can start a bar and restaurant business. Not bad. Don't take it as a joke. Fairchild C-123 relates its name with one of the biggest scandals in the mid 1980's. That involved the Reagan Administration's bizarre of network for arms sales to Iran. This very cargo plane was shot down on October 5, 1986, while delivering supplies to the Nicaraguan Contras.

However, now it's known as El Avion Restaurant and bar. Ready to serve you serve you food and drinks at cost little more than usual ones. Pack your bags with lots of currency and enjoy meals under the wings, built around a 1954 Model. The most charming feature other than the menu and plane itself is the scenic beauty around seacoast blended with mild reddishness at evening sunset. I think other planes should seek inspiration from this unique one among them after their retirement.

Atlanta Prison - Abandoned Place

There's an abandoned prison farm in SE Atlanta, hidden in the woods and completely covered by kudzu.

Buildings are so overgrown that they are deeply hidden in trees.
According to Atlanta's "History of the Dept of Corrections" page, the prison farm was operated from 1945 to 1995.
There are rumors of the 290 acres being converted into a park soon. Increased patrols are also occurring so don't park next to the road.

Folded Paper Art by Simon Schubert

Cologne-based artist Simon Schubert creates two-dimensional images of buildings and architectural interiors out of intricately folded paper. If you thought the papercut sculptures of Peter Callesen were amazing, prepare to have your mind blown by Schubert's work.

For his first solo exhibition at upstairs Berlin Simon Schubert has created an accessible room. Ceiling and walls are covered completely with panels of paper folds in which other works of paper are embedded.

Simon Schubert (born 1976) is an artist based in Cologne, Germany, his birthplace. From 1997 to 2004 he trained at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the sculpture class of Irmin Kamp.

Inspired by Surrealism as well as by Samuel Beckett, Schuberts works imagine architectonical settings, common situations and objects, whereas the material he uses are either simple or sophisticated - white paper folded or mixed media arrangements. Some of his paper foldings entered the West Collection, Oaks, PA, while the Saatchi Collection, London, owns sculptural works in mixed media.

In 2008, Schubert received the ZVAB Phonix Art Award for new-comers.

The Crooked House in Sopot - Poland

There was a little square and music & coffee house "Kawiaret" before. "Crooked House" construction started in January 2003 and in December 2003 it was finished.

There are two entries - main at the front of the building from the "Bohaterów Monte Cassino" Street, and second one from the Haffnera Street.

Building architecture is based on Jan Marcin Szancer (famous Polish drawer and child books illustrator) and Per Dahlberg (Swedish painter living in Sopot) pictures and paintings.

Below, some more description from Allcon (General Contractor of the building):

"The building is situated in Sopot, at Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street. It is the compact settlement and it is an extension of the already existing shopping and service center which main entrance is at Haffnera 6 Street. Through booth building leads walking duration connecting service center between Haffnera and Monte Cassino Street.

The building with its character refers to fabulous drawings of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg. Exterior elevation suits to very popular Monciak’s promenade style. The building with its floors refers to cornices and floors of neighbouring buildings. Colorful stained glass entrances, stone elevation decors and windows framed with sandstone make impression. There is also unusual roof covered with sheet metal with enamel roof tiles coloured with green shades, see blue and Parishian blue, which in the whole makes illusion of dragon scales.

The building was projected as three-storey object with service attic. Communication between three storey assure the lift and allowed staircase freely available. Passage from ground-floor to storey is available thanks to perfectly demonstrated range stairs. Passage from first-floor to second floor leads through reinforced stairs and from second floor to mezzanine through steel stairs which are covered whole by wood."

Hidden Forest Office in Madrid

Spanish architecture firm Selgas Cano recently unveiled their new office in Madrid. Located within a forest, the tube-like structure is half-sunken into the ground, giving the illusion of complete isolation.

A large window runs the entire length of the structure and forms part of the roof, ensuring workers a panoramic view of the surrounding woods. The office is entered via a partially-hidden stairwell and has retractible shutters at the end of the structure. X-Ray Photos Of Different Consoles And Its Accessories

X-ray technician and Flickr member Reintji has combined his passions into a rather splendid peek inside the workings of game consoles. Presumably sliding the hardware into the x-ray machine between fracture victims, he offers a glimpse inside the old and the new, from NES to XBox 360.

While the consoles themselves are moderately interesting, they're all pretty similar - square boxes with a bunch of chips inside. The controllers, though, are where this ongoing project shines. The various joypads are instantly recognizable through their silhouettes and this makes the internal gubbins all the more fascinating.

Above we have the iconic NES controller alongside the rather more complex N64 controller (to me the best controller ever made). Head to Reintji's FLickr gallery to see the big versions, including the NES Zapper gun.

A company called SwitchEasy, which only make various cases for Apple products created this cute case called ChocoShuffle, that can turn the latest iPod Shuffle into a little chocolate. There are three colors or taste available, Strawberry Chocolate, Black Chocolate, and Milky Chocolate. This case is cost $8.99

Amusing? Sure. SwitchEasy's new ChocoShuffle for iPod shuffle 3G transforms the latest iPod shuffle into what looks to be two squares of chocolate candy or Ex-Lax, depending on one's perspective, and is offered in three different colors: white chocolate, milk chocolate, and strawberry chocolate. Each is a rubber sleeve with a hole in the top for the shuffle's three-position switch and headphone port, as well as twin holes in the back for its shirt clip to stick out. Though shuffle cases traditionally haven't been very popular, it's nice to see this sort of case design creativity at a reasonable price, regardless.

Playstation 3 (PS3) Wireless Keypad Review

As hard as it might be for you wizened, Atari-era gamers to understand, there are plenty of people out there who think that today's gaming controllers need even more inputs; even more buttons. That's largely thanks to the inclusion of in-game messaging on most platforms, and, for those whose platform of choice is the PlayStation 3, Sony has introduced the QWERTY Wireless Keypad clip-on. It works as advertised, making text entry much easier and including some bonus touchpad functionality too, but along with those new buttons comes a few new headaches, and we're not entirely sure they're all worthwhile.

Design

The Wireless Keypad is a small, lightweight thing that uses a spring-loaded clamp to affix itself onto your wireless controller -- whether it be of the tingly DualShock3 variety or the rather more frigid original. Once attached it covers the PS, Start, and Select buttons, which are replicated for your convenience in the same location (just a bit higher). There's the full QWERTY spread ready for prodding, plus a few extra buttons, including dedicated ones that bring up your messages list and your friends list. Logical additions, they, because most people who buy this will be sending messages to friends.

It has a smart, sophisticated look, but those buttons are awfully, awfully tiny -- touch-typing here will take a good bit of practice for even the most experienced texters. They also don't give much feedback when pressed, barely registering any movement at all, leaving you to frequently look up at the screen and see if your input has been registered (which wouldn't be a problem if touch-typing were easier). Also, the device protrudes from top of the controller, which can be a bit of a reach. Years of smartphone use has left us with freakishly elongated thumbs, yet even we found ourselves having to tilt the controller upward to reach some of the keys. This is in contrast to the Xbox 360's Chatpad, which sits below the controller and is generally more comfortable to use.

Another major difference between the two products is that, while the Chatpad relies on the Xbox 360 controller for power, the Wireless Keypad has a separate battery. In fact, beyond the spring-loaded clamp, it's completely independent of the gamepad. On one hand this means it won't put any additional strain on the controller's power (not an issue we've heard anyone complaining about), but on the other, rather more frustrating hand this means you now have yet another hungry device requiring sustenance through a Mini-USB plug -- and one more gadget to forget to turn off, too.

The more sphericle, the better the lens works. If the balloon is too big, it becomes a squashed sphere and it's focal point becomes distorted, like a line instead of a tight circle. Sometimes just giving the balloon a squeeze in the right axis will bring the light back to a nice tight circle.

Clear latex balloons, condoms and gloves are opaque untill they stretch. The focal length on these spheres is short, about one to two inches, depending on the size of the balloon.

Dettmer's work involves the alteration of preexisting media to transform the physical form and/or to selectively remove and reveal content to create new works of fine art. Dettmer explains: "Old books, records, tapes, maps, and other media frequently fall into a realm that too much of today's art occupies. Their intended role has decreased or deceased and they often exist simply as symbols of the ideas they represent rather than true conveyers of content. ... When an object's intended function is fleeting, the necessity for a new approach to its form and content arises."
